5 Common PDF Mistakes and How to Fix Them in Seconds

August 3, 2025

We've all been there. You're about to send an important PDF, and you spot a mistake. A typo, a forgotten date, a missing signature. Before you panic and start thinking about re-creating the entire document, know this: you can fix most common PDF mistakes in just a few seconds with a free online editor.

Here are 5 common errors and how to solve them with Docento.app:

1. The Glaring Typo

You filled out a form but misspelled a name or address.

  • The Fix: Unfortunately, you can't directly edit existing text in a standard PDF. But you can cover it up! Use the Text Tool to create a new text box, set its background color to white (or the page color), and place it over the error. Then, add another text box with the correct text on top.

2. Forgetting to Sign It

The document is perfect, but the signature line is empty.

  • The Fix: This is the easiest fix of all. Select the Signature Tool. Draw, type, or upload your signature, and place it directly on the signature line. Done.

3. Adding the Wrong Date

You entered today's date, but the form required the date of a past event.

  • The Fix: Just like with a typo, use the "white-out" trick. Cover the incorrect date with a white box, then use the Text Tool to type the correct date.

4. Checking the Wrong Box

You accidentally ticked "No" instead of "Yes" on an important question.

  • The Fix: If you can't remove the existing checkmark, cover it with a small white box. Then, use the Stamp Tool to place a new checkmark (✓) in the correct box.

5. Needing to Add a Quick Note

You need to provide extra information or clarification that wasn't asked for.

  • The Fix: The Text Tool is your friend. Click anywhere on the PDF to add a new text block. You can add a note in the margin, at the bottom of the page, or wherever it fits.

With a fast, in-browser tool, these common PDF mistakes become minor issues, not major roadblocks. Next time you spot an error, don't worry—just edit and go.
